HOW
DO I TRANSFER MY SITE TO U-TURN MYSELF? |
Although U-Turn offers a free transfer
service, some people prefer to transfer their site from their old provider to
U-Turn's servers themselves.
Remember, you do not have to do
the following if you don't want to, or you feel it's too difficult. If
you've already ordered and said you'd prefer to move the site yourself (but
you've changed your mind), just let us know your username and password with your
old host at your helpdesk.
We will not share your password with anyone and will not keep it after it's
used.
If you choose to transfer your site
yourself, here's what you'll need to do:
1) First, you need
to download a ‘File Transfer Protocol’ (FTP) client. Such a program can be found here:
http://www.ipswitch.com/Products/WS_FTP/
2) Using that program, log into your old host and copy all your website’s files (in the public_html folder) to a folder on your
desktop.
3) Next, using that same program, log into:
ftp://69.93.249.187 (using your username and password)
4) Copy all the contents of that folder
on your desktop to the ‘public_html’ folder).
That should be all that’s required to transfer your site over to U-Turn.
5)
Check that everything's working properly. If you've signed up
in the past 72 hours, typing 'www.yourdomain.co.nz' might still call your site
hosted by your old provider (click here for a detailed explanation).
To check your website on U-Turn's servers are working
correctly, go to:
http://69.93.249.187/~username/
(replace 'username' with your username - and don't forget the slash (/) at the
end)

If all this seems a little difficult, you can always ask for help, or request that we do it for you (free of charge) by going to
here.
