WHAT IS AN EMAIL 'FORWARDER' OR 'REDIRECT'?

An email 'forwarder' (or 'redirect') is simply an email address that forwards all emails to another email address.

For example, you could set up the email forwarder yourname@yourdomain.co.nz and forward it to yourname@hotmail.com.  Any emails sent to yourname@yourdomain.co.nz would be forwarded to yourname@hotmail.com.  The people writing to yourname@yourdomain.co.nz would not be able to tell that it has been forwarded to your hotmail account.

How is This Useful?

Email forwarders are particularly useful when you only want to bother checking one email address.

They are also useful in making your business appear larger than it actually is - you can have one email for 'sales', another for 'accounts' another for 'distribution'... all going to the same person!  Your customers won't be able to tell.

How to Set Up Forwarders

Setting up email forwarders is simple.  Simply log into your cPanel (www.yourdomain.com/cpanel), click on 'mail' and then click on 'forwarders'.  Click on 'Add Forwarder', type in your new forwarder address (e.g. yourname), select your domain from the dropdown box, then type in the address the email is to be forwarded to (e.g. yourname@hotmail.com).  Click Add Forwarder.  From this point on, any email addressed to yourname@yourdomain.co.nz will be forwarded to yourname@hotmail.com.

How to Reply from Forwarder Accounts

So, you've set up a forwarder account to your hotmail account, but when you reply, you want yourname@yourdomain.co.nz to appear in the 'reply-to' field?

Click here for instructions on how to set it up so that your replies appear to come back from your forwarder address.
