WHY DO I GET AN ERROR WHEN TRYING TO DO A BACKUP?

QUESTION
------------------------------------------------------
I am trying to back up my site but when I click on "backup" from my cPanel, I have this message;

"cPanel System Backup is not enabled on this machine. Some other type of backup system may be in place, however downloads cannot be fetched using this module."

What does that mean? Why is it not enabled?

Then below that I have this;

Full Backups

Generate/Download a Full Backup
Download a home directory Backup

When I click on Generate/Download a Full Back up, it asks for my e-mail address - is it going to send me the backup?

I did a "Download a directory Backup" and it is on my hard drive. However, when I "viewed" using winzip 8.1 while decompressing it to a temp file I got an error; something about trailing garbage, but I could still view the file and it seemed to be all there. Can I create another site on your server and upload it?

ANSWER

Hi:

You can ignore the warning about not having the cPanel backup--it is installed and working. We have backups of all the sites on the server.

As for your other question if you click on 'generate a full backup' the email address just tells you when the backup is complete and ready to be downloaded. You can then go back into this screen and download the backup.

When you download the backup you can view in Winzip or another similar program, however you will always see the trailing garbage error because you are unzipping a linux based zipped program. The contents should be okay.

You can now take this backup and create a site on any cPanel server and restore it.  It will put all the files back just as they were at the time you generated the backup.
